Mission Statement

The mission of the TAC unit is to utilize traffic enforcement techniques and vehicle searches to deter the transportation of contraband and criminal activity on public roadways within Charlotte County. Vehicles are stopped upon observation of violations of Florida State Statutes and Charlotte County Ordinances.

General Information

The TAC unit was formed in May 2001 by Sheriff Clement due to the large amount of complaints on traffic related problems within the county. The TAC unit utilizes traffic enforcement techniques as a means of utilizing observation of plain view and agreement by consent form by motor vehicle operators to voluntary searches of persons as well as vehicles. In addition, interview and investigative techniques, as well as the use of narcotics canine, may establish probable cause for searches.

At the present time the TAC unit consist of three deputies and one K9 and the hours worked change from week to week depending on the activity.
