Corrections : Visitor Information - Charlotte County Jail

Inmate Visitation

Social visits are provided so inmates can maintain ties with family and friends within the community while incarcerated. This information is provided so visitors will understand the rules in place that safeguard both visitors, employees and inmates in the correctional environment. Please take the time to read this. Both the inmate and you, as a visitor, have a responsibility to follow the rules. Visitation can be denied if the rules are violated. Thank you for your cooperation.

How the Inmate Arranges for You to Visit

Each inmate is given an Inmate Visitation List to fill out. The inmate may fill out and authorize a total of 8 adult names on the list. There is no need to list the names of children age 17 and below. Your name must be on the inmate’s list to visit. If your name is not on the inmate’s list, you will not be allowed to visit. Discuss this with the inmate when the visit is scheduled to make sure you are on the inmate’s authorized list. Inmates are allowed 2 social visits of one hour each during every week. No more than one visit a day is allowed. They are given the opportunity each day to schedule visits through their housing officer. The schedule is entered into the computer no later than 5:30 pm the night before any visit. If the inmate schedules your visit properly, notifies you of the time and your name is on the authorized list, you may visit. Please come prepared, dressed appropriately and with a government issued picture ID.

Purpose of Visitation

Social visits with inmates are made available to afford the opportunity for support from family and friends while incarcerated. Please help us to maintain the order of the facility and provide for the safety of everyone concerned. Thanks.

Mandatory Dress Code

NO swim wear, halter tops, tube tops, or tank tops are allowed. NO hats or head gear will be worn inside the facility unless medically necessary. Shoes will be worn. NO bare midriffs. Sleeveless shirts are allowed. The appropriate length of shorts, skirts, dresses or skorts will be no shorter than the tip of the middle finger when standing with arm down to side of leg. NO loose pants that don’t fit at the waist so that they reveal underwear or buttocks. Visitors will abide by the dress code or visitation will be denied. Thanks for your cooperation.

Things You should Know Before Coming to the Jail

You must abide by the DRESS CODE (see back page). Bring a government issued photo ID to give to the lobby clerk. Do not bring in personal belongings or they must be placed in lockers. All visitors will pass through the metal detector. Visits are a maximum of one hour as scheduled. Minor children may visit only with an adult or legal guardian. A maximum of 2 minor children may visit with one adult or legal guardian during a one hour visit. The only time a visit may be split in half hour segments is if 2 adults schedule to come, one will go up to visit at a time. No more than one adult will actively visit the inmate at a time.
